Upper School

Upper School

Preparing students for college, purpose, and life beyond Randolph.

Randolph's Upper School challenges students to think deeply, lead with purpose, and pursue their passions with confidence. Through a rigorous academic program, meaningful relationships, and personalized opportunities, students develop the knowledge, character, and independence to thrive in college and wherever life takes them.

Our Program

Every student's path is uniquely their own. With the freedom to explore their interests and the support to pursue ambitious goals, students shape an experience enriched by exceptional teaching and opportunities in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, and service.

9th Grade Game Changers

  • 1. Freshman Retreat
  • 2. Interim
  • 3. Advisory Groups
  • 4. College Preparation

1. Freshman Retreat

All ninth-grade students participate in a day-long off-campus retreat to bond, set goals, and overcome challenges together while learning about what to expect in the Upper School.

2. Interim

The entire class experiences Interim week together during a trip to Chicago. Students attend theater performances, visit art museums, take architecture tours, and participate in unity building activities.

3. Advisory Groups

Each student is assigned to a group that checks-in daily with a faculty advisor. The philosophy behind this structure is to strengthen the relationship between students and their families and the School.

4. College Preparation

Students take the Pre-ACT and meet with college counselors to begin developing healthy habits for success in the college admission process.

Prepare for New Experiences

Curriculum

Our curriculum is purposefully developed by expert teachers to ensure that students are exposed to a breadth of experiences while also receiving the support and structure needed to explore their interests and passions in depth. Each student belongs to an Advisory group, a small group of students in their grade led by a teacher who will guide them through their entire four-year experience in the Upper School.

The advisor becomes the main point of contact for our families and helps advisees select an appropriately challenging course load. For all students, this includes robust offerings in World Languages and Fine Arts, as well as opportunities to enroll in AP courses across the curriculum. Randolph is a member of Global Online Academy, a consortium of leading independent schools from around the world. GOA courses equip students with the tools to be modern learners in a global society.

Immersive Learning

Our work in the classroom, on the stage, and on the athletic field is further supported through unique off-campus programming, such as our Interim Week or Summer Internship Program, where students work with professional mentors, serve within the community, and engage with cultures different from their own to allow them to develop as citizens and connect their learning to real-world experiences.

College Counseling

Our College Counseling Office provides a personalized experience for each student, ensuring that they can choose from schools that fit them best. Beginning in ninth grade, our College Counseling Office works closely with students and families to provide the appropriate guidance and resources necessary to navigate the college admissions process.

This ensures that Upper School students graduate from Randolph prepared to succeed in college and beyond while also making meaningful contributions within their new communities.
