Tailored Tuition
A Randolph education may be more affordable than you think.
Tailored Tuition—Randolph’s financial assistance program—adjusts the cost of tuition based on a family’s unique financial circumstances. About 20% of Randolph families receive Tailored Tuition each year.

Investing in a Randolph Education
Families choose Randolph because they want an exceptional education and a community that supports students as they grow academically, socially, and personally.
Randolph provides one of the strongest college preparatory experiences in the state, with outstanding teachers, small classes, and opportunities that challenge students to think deeply and lead with confidence. We understand that choosing an independent school is a significant financial commitment. Our goal is to attract talented students and supportive families while making a Randolph education accessible to a wider range of students. Tailored Tuition allows us to work with families to set a tuition level that best fits their financial situation.
How Tailored Tuition Works
Tailored Tuition is Randolph’s financial assistance program.
Families apply for a confidential financial review through a third-party service, FACTS. Based on that information, Randolph determines a tuition amount that reflects what a family can comfortably afford.
- Tuition may range from 25% to 100% of the published tuition
- Awards are based on financial need and available funding
- Admission decisions are made separately from Tailored Tuition decisions
- Tailored Tuition is available for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12

FAQS
1. How and when is Tailored Tuition determined?
Randolph uses an objective third-party processor, FACTS, to provide a financial profile of an applying family and estimating the amount of tuition a family should pay based on the inputted information. After careful consideration and review, Randolph determines a Tailored Tuition amount for the family for the coming school year. Families apply with an updated FACTS application each subsequent school year they wish to participate. We make every effort to partner with families who seek a Randolph education for their children.
2. Is financial information confidential?
Yes. All financial information is held in strict confidence by FACTS and Randolph's Tailored Tuition committee.
3. I’m not sure if our financial situation would qualify for us for Tailored Tuition. Should I still apply?
Yes. Each year, Randolph makes a wide range of tuition decisions. A slightly reduced tuition amount can open the door for a student to access a Randolph education. Only families with a completed FACTS application will be considered for a reduced tuition.
4. How is Tailored Tuition funded?
Randolph School is funded through a combination of tuition, fees, philanthropic giving, investment income, and auxiliary program (summer camps, aftercare, etc.) revenue. The opportunities available to students and families entail substantial fixed costs; the more students that are enrolled reduces the individual family’s share of these costs. The Tailored Tuition program specifically is funded through support from donors, grants, fundraising events, and endowed funds, thus spreading the fixed costs between a larger group of families. Randolph is committed to limiting tuition and fee increases for all families by utilizing other sources of income and controlling operating costs.
5. What other expenses are there?
Uniforms, extracurricular activities, after-school care and lunches are not covered by Tailored Tuition or required annual fees.
6. Does Tailored Tuition affect athletic eligibility?
Yes. Student-athletes entering grades 8–12 whose families pay less than full tuition may be ineligible to compete during their first year at Randolph. These students may still practice with their teams and participate in team activities. Eligibility rules are based on the current AHSAA handbook, including guidelines for transfers and first-time students. Please contact the Athletic Office for specifics.
7. How does Tailored Tuition benefit full-pay families?
In addition to reducing the cost of a Randolph education for full-pay families by distributing our fixed operating expenses across a larger number of families, Tailored Tuition also supports healthy rates of participation in our curricular and extracurricular offerings by welcoming more families to our school. Tailored Tuition helps us to surround all Randolph students with as many bright, curious, and hard-working children in the Tennessee Valley as we can enroll.
8. Does Randolph partner with scholarship-granting organizations (SGOs)?
The State of Alabama, through the Alabama Accountability Act, has approved funding for students enrolled at "failing schools" (as defined by the state) to attend Randolph, including Greengate School at Randolph. Randolph partners with Renaissance SGO and Scholarships for Kids. Please contact us for more information about these funds.
9. Is Randolph an Education Service Provider for the CHOOSE Act of Alabama?
Yes. Randolph School is an Education Service Provider for the CHOOSE Act of Alabama. Families should review instructions from the Alabama Department of Revenue and the CHOOSE Act website to determine eligibility. Once eligibility is confirmed, Randolph can work with Class Wallet to process funding for education services provided.
10. Do I need to reapply for Tailored Tuition each year?
Yes. Tailored Tuition is awarded one year at a time, and families receiving assistance must submit a new FACTS application each year. Even if your financial circumstances remain similar, reapplying is required to maintain eligibility. Awards may remain comparable, but a completed application is needed annually.
