Prekindergarten at Randolph is a place where energetic, bright, and eager learners will be welcomed and supported. As part of the Lower School, students will build a strong foundation in social, pre-academic, and life skills that will help them succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.
Why Attend Pre-K at Randolph?
Learning Environment
Four- and five-year-olds will be immersed in a nurturing and safe learning environment that encourages curiosity and creativity. The teacher-student ratio will not exceed 1:8. Carefully selected materials, including imaginative play furniture, books, and toys, will help create a learning space that is both challenging and supportive.
Well-Rounded Curriculum
Our Pre-K program offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes research-based academic tools to help develop reading and math skills, build fine and gross motor skills, as well as social and emotional development.
There are specialist classes in science, world languages, music, art, technology, and physical education.
Experienced Faculty
Our Pre-K faculty are experienced and hold degrees in early childhood education. Pre-K students will also benefit from the literacy expertise offered by the faculty of Greengate School at Randolph, which is nationally accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

| What is a typical day going to look like for Pre-K students? |
| The prekindergarten school day is from 8:00am – 2:30pm with daily recess, physical education, lunch, and rest time. On Wednesdays, the school day starts at 9:20am and before-care is open to students beginning at 7:30am. After-care until 5:30pm will also be available at an additional cost. Specialist classes will take place on a rotating basis. |
| Are uniforms required for Pre-K students? |
| Yes, Randolph School requires uniforms for all Pre-K through 8th grade students. Dress codes are meant to create safe, positive learning environments in schools. Setting expectations for dress helps promote a sense of unity, sets a tone for a more serious learning environment, and ultimately helps to encourage positive behavior. The Randolph dress code is designed to be inclusive yet allow room for personal choice and expression. |
| How do you create a safe learning environment? |
| Our Pre-K facilities are constructed in a gated area on the Drake campus and fully integrated into our School’s current electromagnetic lock security system. |
| What is the process for transitioning to Kindergarten at Randolph? |
| Pre-K students will be required to meet the same academic, social, and emotional development requirements as all applicants, which includes a kindergarten readiness assessment. |
Note: Randolph School holds dual accreditation from SAIS/Cognia and is a member of the National, Southern, and Alabama Associations of Independent Schools. Additionally, our Pre-K facility is licensed by the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
