Where student-centered learning meets research-based instruction for dyslexia.

Greengate School at Randolph serves students in grades 1–6 through a specialized, research-based program designed to meet each child’s individual learning needs. Using the Orton-Gillingham approach, Greengate provides structured, personalized instruction for students with dyslexia while ensuring they enjoy a full and enriching school experience — including co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities alongside their peers.

Founded in 2002, Greengate is 1 of only 18 schools nationwide accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy — and the only school in Alabama with this distinction — reflecting a long-standing commitment to excellence in educating students with dyslexia and related language-learning differences.

With evidence-based instruction and individualized support, students with dyslexia can build confidence, develop strong literacy skills, and thrive in school and beyond.

A Day in the Life

Each student receives personalized support throughout the day. Core subjects are taught in homerooms with two teachers, providing a smaller student-to-teacher ratio for individualized attention. Students complete assignments using the Orton-Gillingham method while also enjoying world languages, the arts, PE, and recess. Each student receives built-in tutoring with a 2:1 student-to-tutor ratio, giving focused, hands-on support.

Bridge Program

We prepare students in grades 1–6 to transition confidently from Greengate to traditional classrooms through our Bridge Program. Designed to support this transition, the program equips students with the skills, self-awareness, and confidence to advocate for what they need to succeed at Randolph and beyond. Families report growth in independence, friendships, and self-advocacy, showing that all learners can thrive with the right resources.

Jennings Miller

Jennings is the Fellow of Record for Greengate School at Randolph, and a training Fellow in the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). Jennings’s mentorship and practicum offerings are focused on dynamic professional growth in small collaborative communities, prescriptively tailored to meet the needs of the teachers and students they serve. She runs a full-time reading therapy private practice in Atlanta that serves students ages 5-20 with various neurodiverse learning profiles.

Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training Sessions

Greengate School at Randolph offers virtual teacher training (with synchronous and asynchronous work) through Associate Level courses open to the public and those pursuing Orton-Gillingham Academy accreditation. Part One focuses on supporting young and/or struggling readers, while Part Two dives into advanced morphology, vocabulary, and written expression for students in grades 3-12. Classes are held in June annually.

Through ongoing Orton-Gillingham training, our teachers are equipped to support students with dyslexia—building skills, confidence, and a love of learning.

Testing

Greengate Services provides onsite educational testing, including our Dyslexia Battery, a series of seven tests to assess phonological awareness, oral and written language skills, spelling, non-verbal intelligence, word reading efficiency, oral reading fluency and comprehension, as well as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-WISC-V. We also offer an Emergent Literacy Assessment for children ages 3-5.

Testing is conducted by our school psychometrist. The evaluation includes testing, scoring and analysis, a written report with recommendations and feedback session. Testing through Greengate Services is a fee-based service and we are unable to process charges to insurance companies. Therefore, we request full payment be made at the time of service.

Summer Reading Program

Keep the learning momentum going this summer. Greengate School at Randolph’s four-week summer reading program works to strengthen language and math skills for children with reading difficulties. The summer program offers daily reading tutorials conducted by specialists trained in Orton-Gillingham instruction, an approach designed for bright children who struggle in reading, spelling and writing. This helps ensure the child doesn’t lose precious academic ground during the long weeks of summer.

Dyslexia Simulation

Experience Dyslexia, presented by staff members of Greengate School at Randolph, is a powerful dyslexia simulation that lets participants experience some of the challenges and frustrations that people with dyslexia face every day. The simulation provides a lively, thought-provoking experience for teachers, parents, and anyone interested in understanding the lives of people with dyslexia. Simulations are held quarterly and are free, and open to the public.
