STEM Overview

Lower School

Prekindergarten students have daily access to science, math, and sensory centers. Students also rotate through a schedule with our science specialist and technology specialist throughout the year. These lessons culminate with a joint STEM lesson unit with both specialists leading students through the process.

Kindergarten through 4th grade students participate in weekly technology and science lessons guided by our specialist instructors. Each semester, students have a large STEM unit that allows students to work all the way through the design engineering process with the aid of both specialists. From experiments in conjunction with the science curriculum in their classrooms to logical thinking lessons and hands-on coding activities, students are challenged to conceptualize, design, and test a variety of creations. They learn how to think with a growth mindset and learn that failure is an important part of the learning process.

Middle School

With a strong emphasis on hands-on activities, self-directed exploration, and nurturing natural curiosity, Middle School students in grades 5-8 are provided with a wide range of STEM activities, offering them a diverse learning experience.

The integration of design thinking in science, engineering, math, and tech classes offers students the chance to develop problem-solving skills and unleash their creativity through projects such as coding and constructing robots, designing experiments, creating games and podcasts, and devising solutions. These skills are further amplified in after-school clubs like Cyber Patriots and LEGO Robotics.

Upper School

In the Upper School, there are Honors, AP, and lab-based courses in physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. Students can participate in clubs and competitions, including robotics, computer, and Science Olympiad. As part of our program, students are encouraged to explore STEM-related careers during Interim and the summer internship program. Course Offerings

The K-4th grade curriculum has weekly arts and STEM lessons built into its carousel program. This rotating schedule allows students time in multiple course offerings each week. These include technology and science sessions, as well as art and music.

Clubs & Extracurriculars

There are multiple faculty-sponsored clubs and extracurricular activities available to Lower School students. Clubs like LEGO Brick Builders, Craft Club, and Chess provide students with the opportunity to develop an interest in STEM and begin building skills and knowledge.
