Athletic Philosophy
Interscholastic competition is an integral part of a student’s total educational experience at Randolph. Athletic competition teaches important life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, commitment, perseverance and fair play that unite the community and prepare student-athletes for college and life. Student-athletes have a responsibility to manage their time in order to commit fully to their coaches and teammates and meet the obligations that come with team participation. The School expects coaches, athletes, parents and spectators to honor the game with character and sportsmanship on and off the playing field.
Divisional Philosophies
Lower School
Kindergarten-4th grade students begin their exposure to organized athletics through games where every team member plays equally. Program directors create evenly balanced teams coached by volunteer parent-coaches who are focused on teaching the rules of the game, basic skills and good sportsmanship. Most importantly the goal for younger students is to have fun while learning skills and developing friendships with classmates.
Middle School
In 5th and 6th grade, students build on the foundations of the Lower School program while developing skills necessary for improvement. Program directors will create balanced teams based on skill level. In the 7th and 8th grade, students transition to more intense practice sessions and continue skill development while working on game strategies. Middle School teams compete in the Alabama High School Athletic Association as they prepare for the high school experience. Student-athletes must be diligent in their academic work and adhere to school rules. Significant participation by all student-athletes is the goal of the Middle School program; however, athletes must earn the privilege of participation through a commitment to team goals, regular attendance at practices to improve skills, and good sportsmanship.
Upper School
In the Upper School, students train for the competitive 3A level in the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Teamwork is emphasized and the privilege to participate is determined by skill level, commitment to team over self, adherence to team and school rules and good sportsmanship. Junior varsity programs emphasize participation by each team member as skills are developing. At the competitive varsity level, athletes will be challenged to perform at each practice and to be prepared for every game. While fundamental techniques are refined during the season, the commitment to team improvement for student-athletes runs beyond the boundaries of seasons as multi-sport participation is encouraged and strength training and conditioning are stressed during the off-season.

More than 70% of Randolph students participate in at least one interscholastic sport during the year.
AHSAA eligibility

Each student-athlete must have an updated athletic physical, complete the AHSAA STAR Sportsmanship on-line class and sign a parent permission/transportation form as well as provide a birth certificate.
Randolph has a strong tradition of athletic achievement at the region and state level. The Raiders are also proud to recognize 37% of student- athletes as scholar athletes who carry a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
