Middle School Science Teacher

Randolph School is seeking a creative, experienced teacher for a Science teaching position within our Middle School Division (grades 5-8).
This teacher will be responsible for teaching the required curriculum, and will also serve as an integral member of the 5th grade team, helping students transition to middle school and acting as their advisor. The teaching responsibility will be 5th grade General Science and would require close collaboration with faculty colleagues.              Start date: August, 2018.

The curriculum of 5th grade Science involves teaching students how scientists work and involves designing experiments, solving problems, asking questions, measuring accurately, and defining variables.  Themes include properties of matter, forces and motion, and an introduction to cells and microscopes.
The ideal candidate will be able to perform the following essential duties:
  • Work with the grade level team to address the needs of the whole child.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication (parent conferences, written correspondence including narrative reports, website).
  • Integrate the teaching of effective organization and study skills.
  • Identify and respond to individual students learning differences and create enrichment opportunities; differentiate instruction to meet the needs of various learners.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive environment and develop respectful relationships with students by using conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques within the classroom.
  • Effectively monitor and manage student learning with an emphasis on hands-on laboratory work and the use of a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress.
  • Have a good general knowledge of laboratory safety and first aid issues, and be able to maintain OSHA guidelines for all activities undertaken
  • Maintain an effective, safe and well-organized lab/classroom.
  • Share duties and responsibilities with other members of the Middle School faculty.
This teacher will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the Middle School and the school community in a manner that supports and promotes the Randolph School Mission.

Minimum qualifications: Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in a Science discipline or Education. Ideally 2-3 years of science teaching experience.
