Jones holds a bachelor's degree in art education and became a member of the Randolph School faculty in 1987. Prior to that, she taught art at the Huntsville Museum of Art and to middle school students in the Huntsville city school system.
Jones was named Southeast Region Elementary Art Educator of the Year in 1995 and the Alabama Art Educator of the Year in 1989, 1993 and 1996. She also received the National Prism Award in 1995, 1998 and 1999, and Randolph School's Anthony Lynch Award in 2000. She is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Art Education Association, the Alabama Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association.
