Chemistry and biology

McMichens holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and taught at Randolph School from 1987 to 1989 before later rejoining the faculty. She also has wide experience putting her scientific skills to work in the private section, having conducted analytical research in the laboratories of several area hospitals. McMichens is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and has had ariticles published in major peer review journals.

She and her husband, Timothy McMichens, a physican, have two sons at Randolph School: Ryan and Troy.
