Dunar has been a member of the Randolph School faculty since 1988, having previously taught high school-level Latin and English as a Second Language in California. She has also worked as a technical writer for Intergraph Corporation. Dunar won a Fulbright Scholarship in 1994, which made it possible for her to participate in an international classics seminar in Italy. In 2001 she was named the K-12 “Teacher of the Year” by the Alabama Association of Foreign Language Teachers.

Dunar is a member of the American Classical League, the Alabama Association of Foreign Language Teachers and the Archeological Institute of America.

She and her husband, Dr. Andrew Dunar, chair of the history department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, have three children, including Michael '04.
