Matthews holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in social science education from Florida State University. He has held positions at schools in Melbourne and Satellite Beach, Fla., where he has taught courses in American history, world history, economics, psychology, sociology, and government. Possessing an unusual degree of computer literacy, Matthews has a particular interest in guiding students in sophisticated research techniques, incorporating multimedia technology into classroom presentations, devising methods to engage multiple learning styles, and implementing cross curriculum integration. Also a devotee of athletics, Matthews has extensive experience coaching basketball, football, and track at the Middle School, J.V. and varsity levels.
