Not all learning belongs in a classroom. Randolph Upper Elementary students are afforded educational opportunities on the road in a variety of venues. Whether conducting experiments in a nearby stream or investigating the origins of our nation at Colonial Williamsburg, Randolph students experiential learning opportunities gives their wealth of classroom knowledge a broader perspective, encouraging original thinking and intellectual curiosity.

Hands-on learning programs offered to upper elementary students include:

A Trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The fourth graders embark on an American Adventure as they tour Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Shirley Plantation.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center Space Camp. Each year the fifth graders experience a week of hand-on science as they conduct a simulated manned space mission.

Tremont Institute. Sixth grade students travel to The Tremont Institute in the Great Smokey Mountains and participate in their environmental education program.

Learning Garden. Fourth graders participate all year in science activities related to the garden that beautifies that front campus. Students enjoy giving “tours” on Grandparents Day when they point out and identify their favorite flowers.

Oregon Trail. Traveling with their “families” in Conestoga wagons, fourth graders encounter both the perils and pleasures of Westward expansion across the Randolph campus.

Renaissance Day. Dressed in historically accurate costumes, fifth graders participate in Renaissance Day festivities that include sporting events, book making, family crest creation, and an authentic Renaissance feast.

Cathedral Caverns. Sixth graders combine their study of earth science along with writing and artistic endeavors as they ponder the wonders at this unusual site.

Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Program. Fourth graders have the opportunity to meet a small group of musicians on campus for an informative session about the symphony before attending a concert for young audiences in the Von Braun Center.
