Peckens holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and secondary education from Hillsdale College in Michigan and a master’s degree in teacher education from the Marygrove College in Detroit. She has teaching experience at three Michigan schools, most recently at the E.W. Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Mich., where she taught advanced placement Spanish, created an upper level film course, and was a member of curriculum council and faculty advisory committees. Peckens is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and the Michigan Association of Foreign Language Instructors. She has also studied abroad in Seville, Spain and Quito, Ecuador.
