Whether it is a competition to collect cans of food for the hungry or shopping for Salvation Army Angels, community service projects in the Middle School generate excitement and energy among students. The Middle School student council, a body of elected students learning leadership skills through goal setting and teamwork, coordinates most of the efforts in community service. Middle School Clubs also offer a place for students to reach out to others. Projects through clubs have included raising money for library books, taking care of a garden, and delivering canned food to the Food Bank. Middle School athletic teams are also adopting service projects. The cheerleader’s 2004 Spirit Link contest raised over $1,200 to buy phone cards for a battalion of soldiers in Iraq and the Blue/Gray Fun Run donated its proceeds to Curing Childhood Cancer.
