Students entering 7th grade take the following core courses: Eastern Hemispheric Geography, Pre-algebra, Life Science, English, and a choice of French or Spanish. It is expected that the student has general knowledge of the geography of the western hemisphere and a strong math background that will enable them to succeed in Pre-Algebra. Students are usually placed in beginning foreign languages classes or arrangements are made according to the level of their experience before coming to Randolph.
Students entering in their 8th grade year take Algebra I, US History, English, one semester of Chemistry and one semester of Physics, and a Spanish I or French I course that gets them on track to enter the upper school foreign language program. It is a challenging year with full-length exams at the end of each semester counting 20% of a student’s grade. Successful completion of the eighth grade ensures a sound footing for students as they enter the upper school.
Summer reading is a requirement in middle school and lists are updated and published yearly.
