Bernick earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. With years of Lower School teaching experience in both Kentucky and Tennessee, she holds K-8 certification. She is a member of the National Education Association and a past president of the Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority.

Her husband, Adam, is the Randolph School Band Director.
